Wellington Joinery and Kitchens has a Tradition of Quality Cabinet Makers

Although the name might be new, the history of Wellington Joinery and Kitchens is anything but.

The company was started in the 1930s by local builder Norm Jepson as N Jepson Construction and started in a small cottage in Johnsonville. In 1948, Norm moved the workshop to two Army huts relocated from the Mackay’s Crossing US Army camp on the Kapiti Coast and then in the 1980s the company moved to its current site.

20 Years Experience

Charles and Stan renamed the business Valley Construction Co Ltd, & continued to grow its reputation as a building and joinery company.

The next apprentice was Bruce Scandlyn who joined in 1976 and then took over the business in 1997 when Charles retired. Bruce decided to focus on joinery and renamed the company to Valley’s Joinery Shop Ltd.
Current owner Phil Schwartfeger left school to join Bruce and his team as an
apprentice at the end of 2004. Once qualified Phil continued working at the business until Bruce decided to retire. Phil purchased the business from Bruce in 2017 and rebranded the business to Wellington Joinery and Kitchens.

There is a term in the construction industry about growing your own wood – and passing on skills and training apprentices is a big part of this. Wellington
Joinery and Kitchens is a company with a long tradition of developing
craftsmen so that customers can enjoy quality joinery in their homes.
